CIBN EMPOWERS YOUNG PRACTITIONERS, RELAUNCH MENTORING SCHEME

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria has relaunch its Mentoring Scheme for the capacity development of young practitioners in the banking and finance industry and to address some of the needs/gaps identified in the industry. The virtual event took place on Thursday, February 18, 2021 via zoom telecommunication.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Nelson Olagundoye, Head Corporate Communication and External Relations, the CIBN Mentoring Scheme which was launched in 2012 was designed to enhance learning and career development for young bankers and to provide opportunity to strengthen the talent pipeline into senior leadership roles in the banking and finance industry. The relaunch is necessitated by the fact that the scheme has been fortified and enriched with more features for the benefit of participants. The enhanced scheme which runs on a mobile responsive, user-friendly application went live on June 17, 2020 with over 600 Mentors and Mentees while more are being on-boarded. 

  

The Scheme is being coordinated by The CIBN Mentoring Advisory Committee under the able leadership of Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, FCIB Former Managing Director/CEO, Fidelity Bank Plc.  

 

The Institute has assembled seasoned professionals from the financial services & allied sector of the economy to address the august gathering, among who are: Mr. John Obaro, Founder and CEO of Systemspecs; Mrs. Lowo-Adesola Oluyemisi Abidemi, HCIB MD/Head Financial Institution Africa, Standard Chartered bank Ltd; Ms. Opeyemi Oduwole, Country Head, Private Banking, Sterling Bank Plc; Ms. Chinwe Egwim, Senior Economist, FbnQuest Merchant Bank; Mr. Tolu Davids, Managing Director, InstiQ Professional Services Limited; Mrs Bukola Oluyadi, Ag. Group Head, Customer Value Management & Strategic Communication, Polaris Bank Ltd among others 

 

Mrs Nneka Okekearu, Deputy Director, Enterprise Development Centre, Pan Atlantic University, will be delivering the Keynote Address on the theme ‘Mentoring: Unlocking Career Potentials and Possibilities.’ 

 

The Special Guests of Honour were Mr. Lamido Yuguda, Director-General Securities and Exchange Commission and Mr. Tijjani M. BorodoHCIB, FIoD, Former Company Secretary FBN Holdings Plc, Currently Partner, Tijjani M Borodo & Associates, Legal Practitioners. Mr. Bayo Olugbemi, FCIB President/Chairman of Council, CIBN who was the Chief Host presented a Welcome/Special Address while Mr. ‘Seye Awojobi, FCIB Registrar/Chief Executive, CIBN gave the Closing/Appreciation Remarks.
